How to report a mistake

Every listing page has a “Suggest a correction” link that opens a short form for that specific record. The form asks which field is wrong, what it currently says, what it should say, a link that supports the change, and an optional email address so an editor can come back to you. You do not need to own the business or have an account to use it.

If you cannot find the listing, search the directory first; if the business is missing entirely, use suggest a listing instead.

What happens after you send it

Sending the form posts your correction to this directory’s contribution service along with the listing it refers to and the time you sent it. It does not change the page. Corrections are reviewed by an editor away from the site, checked against the source the listing came from, and applied to the underlying record only if they hold up.

Because these pages are published as static files, an accepted correction becomes visible when the site is next rebuilt, not the moment it is approved. A correction can also be declined, usually because the source still says something different, or because there is no way to check the change. No timescale is promised here; corrections that affect safety, contact details, or a business that has closed are looked at first.

What makes a correction easy to act on

One field at a time. A single wrong phone number, address, website, or category is quicker to check than a general note that a listing is wrong.
A link an editor can open. The business’s own website, its contact page, or a public record beats an assertion, because that is what the change gets checked against.
Say if the business has closed or moved. Closures and moves are handled differently from a typo, and a closed business is not simply left in place with old details.
An email address, if you can. It is optional on the correction form, but without one there is no way to ask a follow-up question, and an unclear correction may be dropped.

Claims, additions, and removals

If you represent a tree care company and want to manage its entry rather than fix one field, use the “Claim this listing” link on the listing page. If a business is missing, use suggest a listing. If you want a record or a personal detail taken down rather than corrected, see data removal requests. All of these go through the same editorial review; none of them publish anything automatically, and claiming a listing does not by itself verify it.

Errors that come from another source

Listings are compiled from Overture Maps Places open data and from companies’ own published websites, so a wrong detail here often started somewhere else. A correction fixes the record on this site, but it does not reach the original source. Where the mistake is in a business’s own website, or in open map data, or in a Google Maps profile shown live on a listing page, it is worth correcting it at the source as well, or the same detail will keep reappearing elsewhere. How records are gathered and maintained is described in the methodology.
